Best Practices

Cleaning specialized hospitality devices on a regularly scheduled maintenance routine aids in operational efficiency, reduced service calls and longevity of the equipment. Based on the manufacturers recommenda-tions and customer feedback, we encourage the following best practices for optimal results:

Card Readers: Every 1000 swipes or at least 1—2 X per month

Clean more frequently after periods of high use.

Cleaning should be done more frequently, especially areas prone to an abundance of grease, food particles and grime. Failure to clean frequently can cause system failure, device downtime and cus-tomer frustration.

Dirty Device Symptoms

  • Card rejection
  • Reader error
  • Repeated swipes

Thermal Printers: Every media roll changes or at least 1-2 X per week

Clean more frequently after periods of high use.

Printers become dirty from “paper dust” and adhesives as well as environmental contaminants such as airborne grease particles. Cards clean the printhead and any build-up on the printer's rollers.

Dirty Device Symptoms

  • Paper jams
  • Poor print quality or print voids
  • Illegible receipts

Device Exteriors / Screens: When device is noticeably dirty or 2-3 x per week

Clean daily in areas especially prone to exposure to grease, food particles and grime. Screens, es-pecially touch screens, should be checked daily for fingerprint and grime build up. Dirty devices can cause customer perception to be that of a poorly run facility.

Dirty Device Symptoms

  • Visible dirt or grime
  • Poor device operation
  • Dirty or smeared receipts

Equipment Interiors: Every 3-4 media roll changes or at least 1-2 X per month

Clean in conjunction with cleaning cards

Due to their required proximity to numerous types of foreign matter, devices pick up dirt which cause misreads, inaccura-cy and operational failure if not cleaned properly.

Dirty Device Symptoms

  • Paper jams
  • Poor print quality or print voids
  • Misreads and errors
